Welcome to The Red Herring, fellow murder mystery nerd!
Are you the kind of person who rambles on and on about movies, much to the annoyance of all your friends and family? Do you like watching murder mysteries and then ranting about how great (or maybe not-so-great) you thought the plot was, even though the person you’re talking to doesn’t really care? Do you like watching movies about murder so much your friends are just a bit scared of you?
If you answered yes, then you and I are going to get along just fine!
My name is Emma and I also like to talk about movies a bit too much, especially good murder mysteries. I don’t know where exactly my fascination with murder comes from, but it’s led to many nights sipping on a warm cup of chai tea and watching shows about serial killers. It’s a good thing I’m very nice and also very squeamish, because I think I know a bit too much about how to hide a body.
All jokes aside, I think that the murder mystery genre is really fun: you get to play detective from the comfort of your couch. And who doesn’t like those great plot twists? Talking about movies can be almost as fun as watching them, but unfortunately, I’ve found that the world of movie reviews and discourse sometimes feels a bit too negative and a bit toxic. Movies are supposed to be fun, after all!
So, I created this space for you and me to chat about everything to do with murder mystery movies, with no judgement.
If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, then why don’t you watch our first episode below! Join me in a slightly dingy stairwell as we talk a bit about red herrings (I mean, it’s kind of our namesake), and listen to me ramble a bit too much about one of my favourite movies, Minority Report. Oh, there are lots of spoilers- you’ve been warned! So don’t kill me if you haven’t seen the movie and I ruin the ending for you. Although, if Precrime’s up and running, then I’m pretty sure you’ll get busted before you have the chance.
